The summer months are upon us and for those of us who have decided to move during this time of year, beating the heat and remaining safe can be especially difficult. If you are planning on moving during the balmiest season of the year, be sure to read on and learn more about the following helpful tips, so that you can stay cool and safe.

  1. Dress Properly

A summer moving day is certainly not the time to be dressing in layers and while you will need to ensure that the important areas remain covered, it is best to wear as few clothes as possible. Lightweight materials are the top choice and any clothes you wear should also be very loose. Form fitting attire will only cause you to sweat more than you are already going to.

  2. Take Regular Breaks

When we are in the process of moving, the idea of pushing through fatigue can seem especially attractive. After all, the harder we work, the faster we will get done, right? While we would all like to move as soon as possible, there is nothing to be gained from trying to work in an overly rapid manner. Take a moment to consider the grand scheme of things and be sure to give yourself plenty of time to rest in between your most arduous tasks.

  3. Stay Hydrated

It might be annoying to lug around a gallon of water while you are trying to move, but this simple act just might save your life and keep you from having to endure the pain of a heat stroke. Moving can lead to certain time crunches, but there is no time crunch that is worth sacrificing your hydration for. For added hydration, lay out some cool towels and give yourself regular pat downs. Your body is going to be losing moisture at an astonishing rate, so you will need to remain vigilant.

  4. Seek Shade When Possible

You will not be able to remain in the shade for the entirety of your move, but there are certain steps you can take to decrease your exposure to heat and sunlight. Any vehicles that you are using to aid in the moving process should be parked in the shade if possible, so that you are not raising its temperature to an unbearable level.

  5. Keep an Air Conditioner or Fan Handy

If you can keep an air conditioner running during the majority of your move, this is one of the best ways to beat the heat and keep yourself safe. However, if this is not possible, you may want to consider purchasing a few fans. A handheld fan will deliver the best results when it comes to remaining cool and safe during a summertime moving adventure.
